Known as a national Independence Day, Juneteenth is widely celebrated by Black Americans across the country. June 19th became the freedom day for enslaved people in 1865 when, after nearly six months, news of emancipation had spread nationwide. After becoming an official federal holiday in recent years, Juneteenth arrives annually to remind us of how far we have come, and how far we can go.
One of the ways to support Black people during this major holiday, is by supporting Black-owned businesses- but don't just stop there! Take this time to educate yourself on all that it means to be Black in America and be an ally.
Here are a few ways to celebrate and support the freedom of Black Americans, as well as gain knowledge!
